Araling Panlipunan or Social Studies is taught from primary and secondary up to tertiary education both in Public and Private institutions. The content of this subject focuses in topics which are central to the development of a citizen to participate actively in the democratic process, and inculcating the love of country.
But its very alarming and quite a sad reality that students and teachers find the Araling Panlipunan subject as a boring one. Primarily, this is because the subject is dealing with history, economics and politics and even of government, constitution and society. The contents of the subject are highly objective in nature that it should be taught in an exact and comprehensive way.
Information technology/multi-media now plays an important role in teaching Araling Panlipunan. Teachers of Araling Panlipunan could be able to make the classroom interactions lively, interesting, appreciate the learning process and therefore more fun.
Studies have shown that ICTs increase student motivation, retention and transfer of knowledge, and will increase the student interest in studying Araling Panlipunan. (Rodrigo, 2009).
Information Technology would be of great help with teachers’ creativity will go a long way in helping students achieve better competencies through fun learning that brought about by these technological advances. And as educators should be able to deliver the best for the benefits of the 21st century learners.
