Rationale: Reading plays an integral role in communication and education. It opens a lot of opportunities in various fields, connects diversity, and exposes to many interests and enjoyment. This also leads to success and empowerment of one’s mind. One can do so if the skill in reading is enhanced effectively. Results of Phil-IRI 2019-2020(Grade 3-6), School Reading Progress Report 2019-2020 (K-Grade 6), and First Quarter Grades SY 2019-2020 in all content areas show a magnified number of struggling readers. Lack of follow-up sessions at home, lack of parents’ support, absenteeism, plain books, and lack of advance technology in the classroom (especially in lower sections) are contributing factors behind learners’ struggle in reading. This program aims to hone learners’ reading skills through the use of innovative and sustainable instructional reading materials. It also purposes to develop one’s love and interest for reading.
Project objective: SY 2019-2020 – To reduce the high rate of frustration readers in 29% in English and 21% in Filipino to 0% in 3 years (based on Phil-IRI GST and Oral Reading Test). SY 2020-2021 – To hone learners’ reading skills through the use of innovative and sustainable instructional reading materials.
